Conveyor 101 - 3 Day Training Course

Overview

Conveyor 101 is Australia’s only dedicated conveyor belt equipment training program, created with decades of on-site experience and support from leading industry experts. This three-day course is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, giving participants the most hands-on conveyor training available.

What You’ll Learn

  • How conveyor systems work: Core principles of material handling, belt design, and system layout; understanding terminology and the function of each component.
  • Different parts of the system: pulleys, belts, belt connections, and their functions in the overall setup
  • Theoretical background and practical insights into conveyor equipment, including how they work, where they are used, their impact on overall system performance, and how to choose, maintain, and troubleshoot them effectively:
    • Scrapers
    • Skirting and sealing systems
    • Tracking systems
    • Rollers and idlers
    • Impact beds
    • Wear liners
    • Conveyor sensor systems
    • …and more

With each system there will be hand on practice on the maintenance and

  • Pros and cons of different equipment types and solutions
  • Common issues and the “tricks of the trade” that experienced technicians use
  • How each part interacts with the others to influence overall system performance

Safe methods and safety practices:

  • Correct procedures for working with conveyor systems
  • Risk awareness and hazard identification
  • Best-practice safety standards applied to installation, inspection, and maintenance

Best practices and maintenance strategies:

  • Preventive and corrective approaches for each equipment category
  • Real-world examples of what works — and what to avoid

Course Format

  • Day 1: Conveyor system fundamentals, belt basics, drive/tensioning, material flow, transfer points, and core safety foundations. – plus belt splicing press demonstration
  • Day 2: Theoretical and Hands-on training with conveyor equipment – scrapers, trackers, skirting, idlers, impact beds, ploughs – plus safe installation, servicing, and common issues.
  • Day 3: Theoretical and Hands-on training including spray bars, wear liners, pulleys, automation systems, troubleshooting with safety in focus, and maintenance strategies.

Outcome

On completion of the course, participants will:

  • Understand the full range of conveyor belt components and their functions — from fundamentals to advanced applications
  • Be able to identify commonly used systems, their pros and cons, and how they interact within a full conveyor setup
  • Recognise common problems and apply proven troubleshooting methods used by experienced site technicians
  • Apply safe methods and best-practice safety standards when installing, inspecting, and maintaining equipment
  • Gain confidence to make better decisions in design, procurement, and asset management, with awareness of real-world site realities
  • Develop the ability to optimise performance and reliability by integrating practical knowledge with strategic system thinking
  • Walk away with both hands-on skills and advanced insight into conveyor system performance and maintenance strategies
